The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They are equipped with motors that are top of the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other premium iRobots (including the top model), they use smart mapping to produce precise floorplans that avoid obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also have the feature of Carpet Boost that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. robot vacuum cleaner reviews doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of a room.
It's still a great option for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for a wet one in just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has strong suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.
This high-performing mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it will learn your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when it's in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could clean an entire home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of floors and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was superb and it stayed clear of fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.
It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically emptys into its base, and it supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models This mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our evaluations. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
As with other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work, or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also quite expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and a little more cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should please almost everyone.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Like websites -topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on how dirty the areas are.
If you have a bigger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. A stairway mode is useful if you have a number of furniture. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be extremely useful.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might imagine from its price. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that is washable.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features an impressive 8000 Pascal suction, as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a specific area.
